Will Go Green goes the distance?

As Joel Hruska Ars Technica says, green is the new black in the IT industry. Everything is green, data center hard drives and IT companies do their best not be seen as part of the environment and a solution of the problem. Hard disk manufacturer Western Digital, went into the game some time ago with its line of efficient GreenPower drives. They have their short-range with the launch of the new company expanded fromStorage Department: RE2-GP. RE2-GP drives in three sizes: 500 GB, 750 GB and 1 TB.

that go with all the hype and all the green activities quickly, Hruska asked if any developments have been effective and kept their promises, or if the company has simply jumped on the train climbing sticks and a green label on their products. Fortunately, Western Digital case, it seems as if the Real Deal.

Western Digital's new drives use three differentSystems that work with the RE2-GP up to 40% more efficient than their competitors do, without sacrificing performance or reliability. They also claim that the use, RE2-GP used during the 4 to 5W less power than 'competing units.

The three systems comprising the RE2-GP: IntelliPower, which controls the transfer rate, speed and caching algorithms; IntelliPark, which controls the unit heads and reduced air resistance by the disk whilethe entire system is idle, and IntelliSeek that calculates precisely how fast the drive heads must move continuously to the system function. The drive heads are moving then the optimal speed and no faster, which reduces energy consumption.

Western Digital estimates that the energy seen bigger centers, data can be installed in companies where they are expected to save $ 10 (R70-80) to guide RE2 GP. In short, large firms take advantage of multiple disksUnit can save tens of thousands of dollars a year (or hundreds of thousands of rand).

Western Digital GreenPower drives, and RE2-GP systems were from The Tech Report, which are as power efficient as they claim to be reviewed reported. This is good news for efforts to deliver green as a whole, as the efforts various companies' techniques are justified and proven to work just like conventional calculation methods. It also encourages other companies to give a green testwhat is essential in driving competition and technology development. Only time will tell whether these efforts meet the demands of consumers in the long term, but the important thing is that for the moment, were taken to solve urgent environmental problems.
