Hard Drive Freezer Trick
As an experienced professional in the IT industry, I will tell you that the hard drive freezer trick is not a myth. I was actually surprised to see how many articles and forum posts there are online that claim that freezing a drive in attempt to recover data never works. This trick involves some luck, but you must also be sure to do it correctly.
Don't expect this to be a permanent fix, because it isn't. Also, don't expect this to work with a bad drive every time. What you can expect from this trick is to possibly get your drive to spin up long enough for you to copy over important files to a different device.
While the hard drive freezer trick can possibly do more harm than good to the drive, there is a chance that the cooler temperature will allow it to function for a short period of time. Again, this could actually damage the drive even more and make it harder to recover data using other methods. If your data is worth a significant chunk of money to you, I would suggest seeking professional data recovery services.
Step 1
Wrap the hard drive in some kind of absorbent material (dish cloth, ShamWow, etc...)
Step 2
Put the hard drive in a sealed bag (ziplock bag, anti-static bag, etc...)
Step 3
Put the hard drive in the freezer for several hours.
Step 4a
Take the hard drive out of the freezer, bag, and cloth. Connect it to your computer (while the system is powered off). Start the computer and be ready to start pulling data off of it as soon as possible (assuming that it finishes booting).
Step 4b
It actually works much better if you don't rely on the operating system installed on the bad hard drive. You could use an IDE/SATA to USB adapter to connect the bad drive to a computer that already has an operating system loaded and ready to go. With an adapter, you can also connect the drive to the computer while it is already running. Using this method, you will buy yourself some extra time and increase your chances of recovering the data that you need.

My Hard Drive Crashed - Why?
Why does a hard drive crash? This happens when there's a problem with the hard disk and you can't access the stored data, even when everything else with the computer is fine. It can happen any time for no reason, or can be due to something external like your dog or girlfriend puking on it. Ew, that's gross.
Depending on how bad the crash is, you may still be able to salvage some of your precious, precious data. If you've suffered a head crash, where something called the read-and-write head of the hard drive touches a magnet, you're probably screwed. You're in for lots of data loss and anything you try to do to recover the data is going to screw you even more unless you get a professional to do it for you.
Or maybe the electrical system crashed. If this happened, you'll have a better chance of getting your data back.
It could be possible that the air filter on your hard drive malfunctioned. These work by stabilizing the atmospheric pressure and any wetness between the hard drive casing and what's outside it. If the filter fails to capture one or a few particles of dust or dog puke, this material can touch the hard drive, screwing you even further. Then you've got a head crash on your hands and we know that's no fun. Furthermore, everywhere the material touched can cause something called a bad sector.
What is a bad sector? Its simply a part of your computer's memory drive that you screwed up somehow from physical damage. To find out if you have a bad sector, try using SCANDISK (if you use Windows). It'll run a check of your hardware and tell you if you have any parts of the hardware makeup that you can't use.

Hard Drive Recovery translated into record contract Back Again
Hard Drive Recovery is usually a thing that man does not really believe, until now transpires. For example, if the hard disk of your PC stops working, or if you open a document or other work was so hard. It is perhaps a more unique problem that can not be regenerated at the end, such as photos holidays. E 'are interested in right now?
The pitch is perfect, you can decide on the ParkYour hands and the use of 2 or 3 minutes to figure out which of the following solutions should benefit from the best:
- Application Data retrieval software
- The district technical agencies
- Hard drive data recovery specialist provider
Hard Drive Recovery Software Applications
The first solution available when the hard drive recovery software is a given reality. This includes all free and Budget Options, ease of management of the condition of your computer, including deleted files. And also, more efficient disk recovery software to correct the most severe conditions. Almost certainly, your situation is somewhere in these two extremes.
No cost recovery hard drive can help you solve your data file deleted, but the vast majority of occasions that touches many restrictions attached to> Hard drive data recovery software in an effective force. Check out some yourself and discover what I mean.
A cheap computer recovery programs run properly guide the document could be deleted and impose other problems, such as along the file system was not damaged. Still a problem if the functions of the system were changed, showing all need a disk file to retrieve effectiveComputer program.
If you do not understand exactly what you're looking for, it is difficult to differentiate a particular level of hard drive recovery software second. This can be especially costly, because the service company of the state were able to retrieve exactly the same problems as the most powerful utility - deleted or misplaced, damaged, damaged, in addition to computer files. But exactly what these people have left the manual at any time, it was the database of system filescompletely renovated, this type of applications for non-economic results - zero!
Who listened to the concerns
So how can I tell what the hard drive recovery option I need? We must not, unless of course you can understand how some complex terminology: a route FAT, the service partition to create a boot disk in the drive to access data on a disk for the management of a tool to get your disk imageFile to a new storage device completely reliable. This is exactly why I always remember: ". If you sincerely to recover your files are stop, look and use a reliable tool for data recovery software
real hard disk recovery software applications for every new scenario, with a dead hard disk. The important point to stress here is that no matter what your problem is that this unique touch to your perfect software packageView retrieve computer data. Yes, check many other low-cost options to go to find out whether they provide the results, but if you want the best and it is also necessary to have documents at this time, it's really where to start.
The better the computer hard drive recovery programs provide more ability to automatically download disk drives, the ways that you can tackle the task by a number. For example, ifYou want to recover or establish a partition table using the partition to restore the function, but the results are not what you want, you want to restore the computer processes and data through the function of recovering files. In the event that gets the job done, and also realize how to use the file system, the features editor hexadecimal probably move your future.
Desktop computers nearby fixing provider
Every time the hard disk recoveryThe software options rather not deal with your circumstance, or if you just can not cope with the safe recovery of data on your own, then your additional Guru is a solution to a community or a hard drive recovery Technicians.
The advantages of using local technicians tend to have neighbors and the value of the load is usually lower in price compared to a service using technology Pro Negatives local store or receiveOn-Site Management personal computers, are typically the protection of your personal data and the company barely a lot of experience in the restoration of computer data. Exclusive, unless you can run a drive-imaging device industry that would otherwise be able to produce a sector-bit duplicate of the disk file to a new primary hard disk, hard drive, and then hand the primary initial implementation, there is nothing in the hard disk , thendo not let them work on the data. Why is that?
Remember, with recovery of the hard disk, you get a moment to recover data on your computer. That's why I pointed out, go in another sector clone of the hard disk so that data recovery can be done several panel intervals as required, without damaging the original data.
Expert data recovery agency
Experts in the field of hard disk capacityrecovery day by day. They understand what they are involved in and have a high degree of know-how to restore the data. However, you should be aware that these are probably not experts based around the corner, or even in your city. And perhaps even here in your state. In fact there are so few professional hard drive recovery company that has almost certainly, for a night on the hard drive. Thisis actually very common in the industry, especially because the financial burden for the construction of millions of dollars are simply too expensive, more labs in every city and state last.
What choices you choose
Be sure to use the healthiest steps to protect against data loss from constant. Do not open the unit's problems are not groped or some tool that only the destination drive hard recovery. I say this for the reason that wetake phone calls a day from people with this type of software that promises to deliver the market, but devastation. Ultimately, if the rescue unit of the services file is certain, the first step is to know that the industry will be executed bit 'of a short duplication of each hard drive recovery software program must be used first. Otherwise, you are usually in the positioning of your information risk.

Laptop Hard Drive Replacement
Don't rush into swapping your laptop hard drive if you or an expert has not yet determined what the issue is. The first thing you have to when endeavoring to substitute the programs that are running of your laptop is to take away the battery.
Swapping Hard Disks
The simplest way to substitute a hard disk is by taking the the whole laptop apart. The kind of laptop you have will determine which process you are going to take. First off you expose the hard disk which is hidden at the rear of a detachable cover on the lower portion of the laptop, secured with a screw.
Cross-check it carefully and you will observe that the hard drive hinges on the cage that it's connected to. It is actually the power data connection on one end, and the spring steel tab on another end that safeguards both the hard disk and the cage. Here're some methods on how to properly substitute your laptop's hard disk.
Taking out The Cage From The Old Drive
Unscrew and remove the cage. Check that you don't overlook the way to put the cage back after you have finished replacing the hard disk as you will need to mount it back the same way you found it. Once your hard disk has been fixed in the cage, you may then start completing the reassembly.
Reassembly Of The Laptop Hard Drive
Make sure that you maintain the drive in a slightly angled position. This means that, make sure that when you put the hard disk back in, it is close to the laptop's bottom. You can do this at the same time you slide all the pins into the connection block.
Hard Drives Slim And Light
These call for a good deal of care so be mindful when refitting the laptop hard disk since they're recognized to be delicate. In fact, because they are extremely slim and don't weigh much, you don't have to place to much force on them. This is the reason why hard drive replacement is now quite a nerve-racking process for a few people, particularly those who have not tried performing it before. The cornerstone is, don't ever apply any force on it, and you will be able to carry out this undertaking just fine.
Restoration CD For Your Laptop
Now, the concluding step will be to substitute the lid or top in your laptop hard drive by employing a long screw, and then merely fix it again to the laptop's base. Broadly speaking there is an emergency restoration CD that comes with the laptop. This is used to restore the operating system and software programs you require to work your laptop. Although, you invariably need to have a back-up of all your data as these cannot be re-loaded from this compact disk.

How to Rescue Data From Your Damaged Hard Drive
A damaged hard disk drive is one of the most unpleasant types of hardware failure. No, I don't mean that a burned processor or a damaged memory block are more enjoyable. Not at all - they are also disasters and in terms of money generally it is more expensive to replace a processor than to replace a hard drive but damaged hard drives have one very irritating property - you lose not only your hardware but also all or some of your data. Data is priceless and if you don't have a backup copy of it, then you are lost.
However, not all hard drive damages are that bad. There are cases when the hard drive is damaged but the data on it is alive. So, if your hard drive crashes, don't panic but hope for the best - i.e. the drive might have become an obsolete piece of machinery but at least your data is not buried inside. There are different strategies for evacuating data from a damaged hard drive and which one you can use depends on the sort of damage, as we'll see next.
What Is a Damaged Hard Drive A damaged hard drive come come in many flavors. In addition to that, there are many cases when the drive is not damaged but due to some reason the data can't be accessed. For a non-specialist all these cases might look the same - I can't access my files, so my hard drive must have gone off, while in reality the hard drive is perfectly OK but your data is inaccessible because of some prosaic reason.
Without getting into technical details, the shortest (and hardly most precise) explanation of a completely damaged hard drive is that this hard drive can't be accessed with any means even by a qualified PC technician. So, unless you are a PC technician yourself, you can't determine on your own if the hard drive is totally dead or not. However, since there are many cases when a drive is still alive but it can't be accessed due to a variety of reasons (most frequently software issues) you can try some of the approaches in the next section and see if they work. Even if they don't work, they will do no harm, but this does not mean you shouldn't be cautious when applying them.
What You Can Do on Your Own One of the cases when the hard drive is not physically damaged but is unaccessible due to software reasons is when the partition on which the data resides is inaccessible, or at least not from your operating system. In this case you can use an alternative operating system, for instance a Live CD with a Linux distribution and see if you will have more luck accessing the partition. This will work, if the partition table on your computer is not totally messed up. If you see that the data is still unaccessible, don't attempt to mess up with the partition table because you can make things worse. Instead, hurry up and find a PC technician and pray that he or she will be able to recover your data for you.
Another case when the data might still be alive is when the drive has been formatted on a high level. If the drive has been formatted on a low level, the extraction techniques will not work because the data has been physically destroyed. There are many tools to unformat a formatted drive. Most of the tools are paid ones but you can find free as well. Hiren's Boot CD comes with a bundle of data recovery tools and I generally prefer to use them than any other tools.
Software problems are common but hardware problems - I.e. bad sectors or a damaged controller are also not an exception. Unfortunately, there isn't much you can do about them. If data is sucked by a bad sector, then in 99% of the cases it is gone for good. The 1% stands for the rare chance that you have made copies of exactly this file and the copy is not on a bad sector but this is really a lucky exception. You can take the hard drive to a service but it is unlikely that they will be able to do much.
Another technique you can try on your own without risk to make the damage more severe is to go to your HDD manufacturer's site and see if they provide retrieval tools. Usually hard drive manufacturers provide diagnostic tools but if you are lucky, chances are that you will find a data retrieval tool as well. Very often the diagnostic tools themselves not only check for problems but they also can fix some issues, so they could help you save your data as well.
The above mentioned techniques to extract data from a damaged hard drive are only a small fraction of what can be done. However, many of the other techniques are more complicated and they do require some knowledge about a hard drive's architecture, so I wouldn't recommend you to apply them because you can make a lot of damage. Some of the techniques that require opening the computer case or messing with the parts of the disk itself are too dangerous to try at home. No, you will hardly destroy your home but you can surely further damage the hard drive, making it impossible even for a technician to help you. Additionally, you can void the warranty for the computer system, which is hardly what you want to achieve.
Take the Hard Drive to a PC Technician If you have tried to rescue the data from your hard drive on your own to no avail, you have no choice but to take it to a service. A PC service has more equipment than the standard user and there is a chance they will be able to help you but still, don't expect miracles. In some cases data extraction services could be free of charge, especially if you have bought the hard drive from them and the warranty has not expired yet but in other cases you will have to pay.
As you probably guess, fees vary. As a rule, the cost depends on the volume of data that needs to be extracted but generally it does not cost a fortune - you might be able find somebody to do it for around $200. Still, if your drive has serious physical damages, even if you go to a more expensive data rescue lab, there is no guarantee that your data can and will be restored.
Skilled PC technicians have more tools and techniques and their disposal. If you are interested in contacting a reputable company, try the service listed below. If you would like to learn more about hard drive data recovery techniques, here are two good articles: www.wikihow.com/Recover-a-Dead-Hard-Disk and www.networktutorials.info/datarecovery.html Some of the information in these articles might be useful to diagnose the problem, but don't even think of applying the techniques on your own. It is really risky!

What to do if your hard drive is making grinding noises
For a data recovery lab someone say, "My hard drive made a grinding" is about as bad as it gets. If you do not know what looks like a hard drive, make your old vinyl records are stacked on each other. Between each layer of vinyl (top and bottom) are read-write heads that attract both, and to extract the data. But unlike those old vinyl, the heads inside the hard drive can not touch eachDishes.
The modern hard drives store data on magnetic variations. If the read / write heads to touch the pot, this means that some of the magnetic information stored physically wiped out. It will make a fine powder and, depending on how much is removed from the disk, you can kiss any chance of recovering your data goodbye.
If you grind your hard disk:
* Turn off immediately!
* Do not run the recovery software onit
* Do not put in the freezer
* Find a data recovery expert, whether to return the data
Off
The longer you allow the computer to operate, most of the surface of the plate will destroy you. If you destroy a part of the disk, the computer helps to interpret the information that belongs where it is. If you're lucky and destroy little information you were working, a laboratory should be able to recover the rest. However, the more you try tois the last piece that lights up more dust plate.
DO NOT run the recovery software
We had a drive to get the data that another competent computer specialist repair software that attempts to run a utility. It allows you to control the software run for hours, despite the noise. When the crisis finally gave way to a sharp clicking sound then called us. Two concentric grooves and perfectly fine powder is all that we have beenleft with. Needless to say, the customer is never behind. A utility software will do nothing to help a hardware failure!
Do not put in the freezer
We have heard people testify to the success of this method. We also saw dozens of units with plates are corroded. This does not change the cost of your loss of jobs data recovery. Freezing the drive when the milling head can force the contract metal (and separately) and non-contactbetween the plate and the head, but does not solve the problem that the head is dead yet! Instead, you have a death's head, corroded a table, and a very expensive recovery job!
Find an Expert
The person who advertises push us down the floor in a way that restores the data. The coach in question is a very competent problem solver. He is great for building, fixing and patching up networks, but data recovery is not his strength. If the drive went straight toan expert would fancy the chances of data recovery is much higher. Just because someone knows something about computers, this does not mean that they know everything!
The bottom line is if the data is important to you, you have to take proper measures to secure protection. If something does not seem quite right, STOP. Data loss is much more likely to happen as your house burns down. You buy insurance for your home, but most people do not think twice about it, a small investment to protect their data. MakeYou know, what the data is worth and if a hard drive $ 100 worth of saving thousands of dollars on the street.

Do it Yourself Xbox 360 Hard Drive Troubleshooting
Xbox 360 hard drive troubleshooting should always start with checking all your connections and making sure your power supply is working properly. If everything seems normal and your Xbox is displaying three red lights then you have deeper issues which will only be resolved through repairs.
The three red lights mean you are having hardware failure. You have several choices when it comes to repairing your xbox 360 console.
Ship it back to Microsoft and pay the repair bill which may be rather expensive.
Ship it to a online or local repair shop and have them fix it for you.
Do it yourself, which will save you time and money.
The three red light problem is why more and more people are do it yourself Xbox 360 hard drive troubleshooting. Mostly avid gamers run into this problem and when you play for long periods of time your Xbox heats up and the cooling fan is unable to control the temperatures and your system overheats.
Inside your console are heat sinks which connect the CPU and the GPU. The extreme heat causes the glue which connects them to the circuit board to come loose. Which leaves your Xbox 360 virtually useless. These type of glues commonly come loose on these types of electronics. I even had a 46 inch television become useless after the heat sinks separated.
The best solution I have found is to repair it yourself with some of the new repair manuals which have shown up online recently. They hand you step by step written and video instructions and it should take you less than an hour to have your system back up and running.

Formatting the hard drive in XP?
Do You Really Want To format the disk?
Be forewarned, formatting a hard disk is very different from the formatting of a Word document. The format remove * all * your hard drive (operating system, programs and data files) and allow even restart the PC. The only thing you can do that with a freshly formatted drive to install an operating system from CD-ROM.
I know ... which is exactly what you saidI wanted to do. But that * may * be a bit 'drastic. After re-installing Windows XP, all Microsoft patches and fixes it, then reinstall all the software packages previously. It may take several hours to download just the Windows update files downloaded.
I think we consider this step because the PC has been infected by a group of spyware and viruses, and is now reacts slow and shaky. But before you go all samurai on your hard disk,I advise all the steps in my Make Windows Faster! Article. It 's my special recipe to clean the gunk from your computer pipes, so Windows will start faster, run faster and more reliable info-highway information.
If you really want to reformat the hard drive for ...
You can not ... at least not until Windows. You must restart from the installation CD of Windows XP, because you can not format the hard disk where Windowsrunning. But first you will probably want to keep your hard drive, or at least part of it. For assistance, this is for backing up files and various options to protect your personal files.
Okay, back to reformatting ... if the installation CD to boot, a message appears asking if you want to repair your existing installtion. It is not necessary, press ESC to bypass the repair option.
Now select the partition where Windows is installed, then press D to. Clear Press L to confirm the deletion. Okay, it's time to create and format a new partition. Select the unpartitioned space and press C to create a new partition. Allot the maximum amount of memory space and press Enter.
Now select the newly created partition and then format it. Select NTFS, go for the "quick format" and then sit and wait. If the new partition is formatted, you're ready to (re) install Windows. Do not forget to install, your anti-virus and anti-spywareSoftware and make sure that Windows Update as soon as possible visit to make sure you have the latest security updates.

How to recover data from failed hard drives
There are two methods for recovering data from failed hard drives.
First of all, you can special data recovery software that can access all your important data. In most cases, you will be able to retrieve data for the problems of your hard drive failed without the help of too many data recovery freeware or purchase of fully supported software, if you prefer.
Please note hat data recovery is not always possible when the real problem isdue to aging or broken hard drive, such as a broken arm to the head. In the exceptional circumstances that would lead to a hardware specialist fixed before one of the important data inaccessible.
When data refers to recreation, there are no restrictions on the physical size of the hard drive. If you are looking for data from a flash drive 1 MB or 300-GB Ultra SCSI drives that areshould still be able to recover the data.
In addition, there are no restrictions on the types of operating systems, you can groped to extract data from, for example, recovery of Microsoft Windows on Linux systems. This continues to be used for Windows or Mac OS file system Apple Mac for different file formats such as FAT32, and NTFS, the popular file formats, include.
The information can be accessed from all areas of your hard drive - including filesYou can recover deleted in the past, otherwise, hard drive had landed in the trash before you.
Second, the data recovery experts to guide the lost data from damaged hard more. It is not surprising that most of the damage, injury or damage to spill, especially in the case of portable computers.
At company level, many companies use RAID (Redundant Array of Inexpensive Disks) configurationsProtect your data and otherwise deny the effects of a single disk. There would be no loss of data if the hard drives in a RAID 5 set is not like you would be able to reconstruct the data for non-members from the 'other units. However, if the entire RAID volume fails, then that would be a cause for concern.
In the case of a RAID volume is otherwise little alternative but to send your hard drive to a data recovery expertRestoring the RAID configuration and data. This would be true even if the hard drive failed and were not re-partition of data that can have a particular partition or hard disk access.
The recovery of important data and files from failed hard drives is possible with the help of a data recovery software. If the disks are damaged, or RAID volume set has failed, and the data on the disks is not available, sought professional help datarecovery experts would be a better choice.

Hard disk makes a clicking sound
Hard Drive Failure?
Generally, a tick from your hard drive is a bad omen. It could be a portent of terrible events that hardware, so my immediate advice "BACKUP your hard drive!" as soon as possible. If the hard disk fails, you are out of luck. Even if you suspect a problem with the hard drive, it makes sense to do regular backups to disk in order to survive,Failure only with minimal inconvenience.
See my article on backing up files on backup strategies, hardware and software to learn. And if you're curious about the hard drive you should be concerned about the noise, you hear the clicking sounds [http://www.hitachigst.com/hddt/knowtree.nsf/0/4b1a62a50f405d0d86256756006e340c?] Made from hard drives die .
Analyze your trip
In Windows XP, you can browse your hard disk for errorsusing the CHKDSK utility. Restart the computer and hold down the Ctrl key during bootup, is in progress. If the option to restart in Safe Mode, select it and see. Click Start, click Run, then type CHKDSK C: / F / R, press Enter. The / R option tells CHKDSK to scan for bad sectors on the disk, which means the / F option, correct the errors found. (On a Windows 98 system, with the command SCAN DISK CHKDSK instead.)
If CHKDSK offers to convert "lost chainsFiles, lost data, restore, repair, or something else, you should accept. (If CHKDSK tries to sell you a cheap Rolex, politely decline.) Once CHKDSK has finished, restart your computer normally and see if the dreaded click of Doom versa. If it runs, the most likely damaged and should be. can be replaced as soon as you file to decide to purchase a new computer, see Copy old drive to new PC with the help of your transfer.
If you areLevel?
But before you trash the drive annoying, you should try one more thing ... Some hard drives are very sensitive to non-planar surfaces, and will not work properly if it is sitting on a diagonal. Turn on your computer, make sure your system is on a flat surface (at a level to check), and then reboot. I was all set on an old computer that does it / buzz was routine, but I realized that was not sitting on a flat surface. OnceI solved the problem was gone!
The clicking sound signal imminent bankruptcy, in May, hard drive, but remember, you always get a warning. So go on safe ... Back up files on a regular basis.

How to install a hard drive
The decision on a new hard disk
Installing a new hard drive is a fairly simple task, and the actual installation takes only minutes. The first process leads to this is that buying new hard drive and make sure it is compatible with the system compatible, these units can be done by consulting your motherboard manual, and operating systems, guidelines on what needs hard. Then decide what storageCapacity with the new drive and have all other factors, including the price, the feeling that should be taken into consideration when purchasing.
PEPARING Installation
After you purchase your new hard drive is the time to prepare for installation. I recommend first installing any software provided with the unit. Once this is done it is time to think about security. First of all, the machine (I also recommend the plug from the towerRemove the power source.) Now the cover so that you can access the system. Normally it takes only removing a few screws and then lifting the side wall to open the device, but some cars are different from this rule and you can even have a front section removed to open the case. In both cases once the case disclose your anti-static wristband if you have one, if not permanently affect the distribution of the edges of the metal outer case, there is no static electricity built. Thus, all sensitive components inside your computer can not be damaged.
Jumper (IDE only)
Jumper is basically how to install and configure the drive are included. E 'documented, and set the unit for the correct settings, for example, if you go to install the configuration to drive the new drive is the only device on the IDE channel and single set to be the case. For a unit that is the first ofIT two IDE channels should be set as master, and a unity that is the second channel as the slave must be configured. The most common patterns of jumper settings, drive to be with the one on top of the drive. If no, please, please find the documentation of the new unit. Once you know how the jumpers set, you can pair pliers and involve Jumper configurationDrive.
The installation of the plate
First look for an open sky in the control tower these bays are on the front des If you drive, replacing existing hard then it's probably better to put your new hard drive in the bay, the old Drive currently occupied. Unscrewing a few screws and remove the old drive, you can ride on the bay, the new one. However, if youtravel planning to add new, but keep the old, is a good practice, the units maintain open bay between the two difficult. The actual assembly of the disc is different from case to case, some bays are removable and can remove other this and then add the drive to the bays are firm and need to mount the drive inside the case. In both cases the process is not difficult if you are away from the BayHousing or less the rest of the process is always the same, and this is put the disk in the bay, making sure to align the holes for the screws and then insert the screws. After the screws are cuddly exists, it is time to replace the bay, where before it was removed.
CABLE CONNECTION
From here, we want to connect the cables. Depending on the type of unit you need to use to connect to an IDE cable or SATA cable to your new hard diskDrive. If you are using IDE and replacing an existing hard drive all the new that has happened to the cable on your old hard disk was used. However, if you add a new hard drive, while maintaining the existing entries you can connect both drives to a cable or separate cables. For performance reasons, I propose two separate lines, if possible. The primary IDE cable (probably the ones you've already used)Has to drive faster and the secondary cable should be to slow down with that. From this point make sure the power connectors on board are properly the mother, with both IDE cables are missing this great black and pretty hard to plug. Read your motherboard manual and the drive to find those links, if you are unsure about their situation.
After installation
Now that the worst is overthe only thing left to do is to close back up system, connect your own, and turn to see if the new hard drive is functioning properly.
This is all I have already, is not as hard in order!

If you see your data, just select it and recover Tada! Get back your lost data.
damaged from the hard drive was not an easy task even for experienced engineers and time-consuming and expensive programs to retrieve data from the Commission, which. However, with technology developing company to change all that. Is not it time the meticulous homework with a single comprehensive program that costs much less.
There are many causes of defectshard> drive. Or is it physical damage, failure or crash through eavesdropping programs or are caused by human viruses. In restoring data from damaged hard drives, you must treat with the utmost care to. Do not try to make changes to the ECU. The most important files could be saved. However, you may lose forever if you do something wrong. The first thing I want to do, how to run a scan with software for data recovery and data backup immediately.
Ihave tested many data recovery software and I have the best software I have selected for you listed. They worked for me and I'm sure you can help.

The Truth About hard drive failure and data recovery
The hard drive is the heart of your PC. As technology advances, this always get smaller as more powerful and able to store an increasing amount of data. The units are supplied with a storage capacity and are relatively cheap compared to other electronic media and their reliability and overall much improved but are still subject to occasional failure.
If they do, the results are often disastrous. If yourComputers for commercial purposes, could be the entire company at risk data from a hard disk failure that results in the loss of your value. Fortunately, in many cases you can recover lost data - provided you take the necessary measures to restore the files. In fact, data recovery experts usually have a success rate of about 75-85% of the collection of data that was lost due to disk failure.
Discs can not for afor two reasons, or for physical damage or logical damage. Let's look at each of these situations and discuss what can be done.
physical errors
physical error is pretty simple. The record fails because of one or more of the internal components of the drive is not working properly. This could be due to extreme temperatures, moisture damage, shock or physical degradation in time. Some possible types of physical damage: Includes
Spindle motor failure
Read / write failure
Disk Controller Failure
Damage to the motherboard
Damage to the rocker arm
A hard disk is a sensitive device, and it is necessary to avoid possible injury, however. To repair the physical damage to the disk, you must consult the technicians need a computer professional. Tries to repair itself, it is probably only going to cause more serious problems.
A repairRemove the hard drive in a technical laboratory sterilized with controlled temperature, pressure and humidity to prevent dust particles from your corrupt. The technician will repair or replace damaged parts.
Logical damage
About 60% of the time, hard disk failure is a logical error. Logical drive failure caused by damage to the software component and can from yourbecause of one reason for the following:
Infection
The file system corruption
accidental deletion of important files
operating system to malfunction
Formatting problems
In many such cases, you can recover your data with data recovery software. Data Recovery Software, data from a group of users who have lost their position to search your hard drive and search for you. Some programs offer support to restore data is not bootable your computerStart position on his own. This allows the unit to be restored, to their previous state. The software is able to analyze the data and then safely stored on a hard drive or flash drive.
This process can be a very long time, perhaps to drive all day to scan one and an extra day to recover files.
What can I improve my chances again to my data?
The best thing to do when you suspect that aphysical dysfunction of the hard drive for backing up data immediately, if possible, shut down, and get your entire hard drive to a professional. Signs of imminent physical disorder include a new sound unusual coming from your hardware, like a buzzing or clunking sound.
You can extend the life of your hard disk environment, ensuring that it in a cool, dry place. Excessive heat can damage the components of the drive andlead to failure. Hold all possible sources of moisture away from your computer and maybe think about a dehumidifier in your room, the temperature cool and dry.
If you have lost files due to a formatting problem, you immediately stop the drive to limit the possibility of overwriting files. Data Recovery Utility can be able to help with this problem, but not always successful.
Finally, the best protection against hard driveFailure is not prevention, but preparation. Back up important information on daily basis to ensure that you suffer may protect against losing data if the hard disk should miss once. This sounds obvious, but it is a simple process that many people overlook.

Backup Hard Drive - before it's too late!
OK, we've all heard the importance of data backup. If this report is due tomorrow or priceless family photos from last Christmas. We have all heard, but how many of us have also saved our data? You PC is fine, never crash, right?
Unfortunately, many PC users do not back their data, and then you know what? It 's too late? Personally, I obtained a document of 5,000 words in my first year in college, because my Lotus Smart Suite crashedprint the file as I wanted. I could open and use Smart Suite, but my report was lost. I have to withdraw from the theme and repeat the next semester.
The fact is that there are some ways very simple and fast way to backup your data, take five minutes at most, and avoid destruction in the future.
They are:
Windows Backup
Windows has installed a backup program in its operating system. Zur,
Start - -> Programs - ->Accessories - -> System Tools - -> Backup Status and Configuration
I recommend that all your precious files to a folder and run the backup. You can back up or a complete system backup, if you wish, however, These options take a free disk space, and the fact that Windows and associated programs, CD / reinstall all applications from an automatic ( ensure that the original!)
Once this is done, I suggest you put the backup file on anotherindoor unit and a USB stick or CD. This is because if you lose the external device (CD / USB), then system will have assured you and when you lose the hard drive from fire or theft, you have the external drive. If you do not have a second PC, You do not lose the external storage device, or better yet, you can drive a second cheap small. This is important because it adds another safety net. Seriously, what isYour data is worth?
based storage solutions-WEB
Web-based storage is a fantastic opportunity! Google Gmail and Yahoo Mail offers free services for data backup of up to 2 GB in size on your Yahoo Mail or Google Mail. If you have a larger footprint, there are companies that will be to meet your needs for a small fee.
Burn files on a CD
This option is not recommended if you have something like me exist! I do not expect to burn discs. I think not! Iif they are scratched or lost, what is the problem? Only Chuck another to burn in the media and new. I know most of you are nodding agreement now. OK, so if the backup disks, or search for them would probably be better? Maybe, but I'm not sure.
If you think this option is only appropriate to insert a blank CD in your burner and burn the backup files needed. Very simple - do not miss!
In all seriousness, back up important dataThe data can never be underestimated! Which method you use simply ensure that only you one and succeed. Better yet, use some methods that use Windows and an online service or an external storage device.
Do not regret not backing up data!
Please believe me, I know what it otherwise is like.

Why Erase Hard Disk Drive?
Why do you delete a record is a difficult question. There are many people who have tried to answer this question with the words "to prevent identity theft" would be. However, theft is not so simple. Hackers are true masters are increasingly dependent on information, all you need the help of special software for this.
Often it was recommended to remove the hard disk before being sold or donated. Some advice, butare many who do not pull on these important words. Our piece hard drive where everything that we made our way to get saved. Once done quickly erasing or formatting is rapidly creating an empty root directory. However, this is a sure way to delete data, while the rest remains the same pot. Furthermore, all important data is on disk, so you can abuse and you can end up in big trouble. E 'therefore necessary for usDelete the data correctly from the disk.
Now, on a personal level to many difficult questions, but when it comes to business, you have to be really aware and alert. You never know what information can be useful if your competitor gets the hard disk. For the protection of confidential information on the Company Board of Directors, credit card information, social security data, accounts, internal data and other things we need professional help to eliminateHard disk.
You can buy the hard drive to delete, program, or with the help of a company in the provision of operational services, security hardware and software. They know how to completely and safely remove the hard disk automatically. There are many companies erase the hard drive services. A new solution to help your hard drive from spinning down
There is a new program that is down, that really helps Mac users, with a big problem with the disks rotate. Currently MacFixIt.com 's Staff Pick of the Week "No Spin 3.0 is a utility for Mac to stop your external hard disk" spinning, or "sleep" go ".
This utility is a necessity if the Mac computer is in any kind of extended treatment, such as digital video and audio editing work. It 'was created with the ideaSenior Developer Raymond Lewis Jones. The program received over 4,000 downloads in its first week. The problem of spin-down is worrying Mac users for years and there are a number of complicated ways that could remedy this for the exhibition. But "no-spin" the problem is solved with a simple mouse click.
The program was an instant success when it was. "No spin" side by side with other highly successful Mac Utilities "Drive Genius," Tech Tool Pro"MacDust. You really see the future trend of Web software and our first step in the field has been very positive. The goal is to solve important problems in a simple, and I that this factor and" No spin "the user -Such friendship is what makes it a vital utility. Another reason that the program is so useful because of the "No Spin" is its popularity for redistribution. MacUpdate.com and VersionTracker.com While initially it seemed, was soon plucked bySoftPedia.com, where he was examined and approved and then CNet.com, the largest software download internet forums. From here, the opportunity has gone international CNet.com 's international content distributors.
Coming from the success of a software package first, there are many release dates scheduled for three more software utilities, virtual DVD 3.0, an application for Mac OSX, allows you an iTunes style library you create the torn DVDs, the key of 3.0, a Mac OSXThe application lets you use your computer or flash drive, thumb on the power button, and toolbar 4.0, a special developer-oriented set of utilities for the toolbar installed to replace the Finder. How to build a portable hard drive Quiet
When I bought the notebook used online auction site have lasted or when it should not be fixed with just one.
In my quest for a laptop HD, I discovered a way to map a drive Compact Flash memory.
I bought a CF to boot 2.5 "IDE adapter. This adapter allows you to drive using a Compact Flash card as your primary hard drive.
The adapter connects to the connector 44-pin in most laptops. I noticed that some laptop portspin hole in the middle of blocks, so that does not fit the adapter. I think we could cut out your PIN or bend back the tab and it should fit, but I have not even tried.
It can run on any operating system from a CF card with this adapter. I recommend, as with Windows 98. Windows XP allows you to read too many / write cycles, which can shorten the life of the memory card. Windows XP requires at least 3 GB to install. Windows 98 requires a minimumto install 256 MB.
It 'can use the Windows XP operating system. I would switch to a Microdrive. But used with caution, the installation of Windows XP will hang in an endless loop. Is there a trick to install correctly, but I have not yet discovered. I can imagine it takes to transfer files from a laptop HD set.
The best advantage of using a CF card as a hard disk is that if the laptop falls, the memory card is probably moreunits of surviving the fall as a regular tough.
The new mini-laptop uses a similar configuration, which is a Solid State Drive (SSD).
I use this adapter and a 2 GB card for my laptop. Works well with Windows 98 and I have a Wi-Fi card for Internet access.

Since Mac files from Mac OS X Undelete Hard Drive?
All your data stored on your hard drive Mac OS X hard disk is stored in the module. The type and file format depends on the application that is used to having to create specific files. You can organize and manage files of a similar nature to be saved in a folder and directory. When racing there are unwanted files to your Mac drive, you can easily remove. In some cases, you may accidentally delete any important data from your> Hard and trash as well. This behavior leads to serious situations of data loss and requires Mac undelete software to recover deleted data if no backup.
When a new file on your Mac OS X has been created, Mac has space for its storage. When creating a voice made.It is a data structure that works as a database for storing, organizing, accessing and manipulating files on disk. The voice of the file systemcontains all the information such as name, location, file type and file size. If you remove the files from the Mac hard drive, the voice system is deleted only.
Just delete a file with the Delete key on the keyboard is moved to the Trash folder. Trash is a directory, all the deleted files and folders stored on Macintosh computers. Can be easily restored from this directory to its original position.
However, if you delete a filebypassing the Recycle Bin or Trash folder empty, can not restore the file. The file will be cast out from the hard drive and become invisible. In these cases, you can restore your Mac to restore deleted files from the last backup.

Prevent HDD crashes
Inevitably, sometimes only hard drive crash. Arrests happen. Hard drives fail, especially because there are many moving parts.
There are few things you can do, they will prevent hard drive crash, or at least to see. If you plan to fail, at least you have time for a backup of your hard disk before it goes down.
Backup disk
Firstly later. This should be a breeze, butthe best way to prepare any type of hard drive issues.
If you backed up your data, you will not need to stress not so much when it seems that the drive is on the verge of bankruptcy or when it appears that it has.
Listen to ticks
Excessive cracking noises from the disk may indicate that he is on the brink of bankruptcy. If this happens, you may already be too late to prevent the fall, but you can at least anticipate and act accordingly. Only under these circumstances quickly.
Use anti-virus software
Havoc viruses can in a way that you can not imagine the cause. Sometimes, when a virus is bad enough, can damage system files on your hard drive and system crashes an important cause.
Preventing the use of anti-virus software to detect this situation and block viruses before they go crazy with system files on your hard disk.
Let your> Unit overheating
Keep the inside of the computer case neat and tidy. So that you can use your computer installations, including the hard disk in an efficient breathing. A dusty computer and inner confusion is the promotion of overheating, not only unity but also other important as hardware.
Also make sure that your cooling fans and are efficient and powerful enough to keep cool your hard drive. It always looks a Fandirectly to the CPU of the computer oriented, but also to consider other components that must be kept cool. You might want to consider a hard drive cooler, either active or passive, to keep fresh hard drive.
Defragment
Defragmentation will help prevent overloading the unit from where the entire file fragmentation.
Just think of a turntable ... When the needle is continuously and directly through theRecord a song to play again and again, is clearly overwhelmed. The risk of mechanical failure would be increased. Let your hard work efficiently.
Do not drop or hit
vibration or shock to a computer or a disk may damage them. Be careful with computers and treat them as if they were fragile. You!
Total, so make sure not to ignore strange noises from the hard drive and view it asIt should be noted: as a complex and valuable archive of information. Proper care will go a long way in preventing a catastrophic accident.

Upgrade your hard drive - adding storage capacity
I want to show how to add more space on your computer, and the cost is not much, it really makes a difference in how much information you can store on your computer.
If your computer is relatively new, it is sometimes better to upgrade the hard drive of your computer, and it is so cheap, follow these 10 easy step guide!
You must follow these steps:
Before sure to placeComputer
According Disconnect
Third Or by screws in the back, or simply slide
Quarter Search your hard drive is usually located in a rack made for
A fifth insert the cable
Sixth Determine if it is an IDE or SATA
Seventh takes the IDE cable off the tape,SATA cable uses a small
8th After determining the nature and install the new hard drive purchase
Ninth Close to everything and turn on the computer, when you start, recognize the drive
10th You can copy the operating system and files with the software for this purpose.
If you think you can not or should not groped to perform this search for a qualified technician to do this!
Notas hard as you think people do not think this much, It is magical, if someone is working on a computer, but it is not some similarities, not afraid to try some slightly different!

Back Up Hard Drive
Research data on backup hard drive or external drive is often cited by general-interest publications as well as more sophisticated research firms. You can backup software and files and access them from another system. Using a backup external drive is great for people who have too much data to store on disks, but there are definite risks involved in using this method.
Files and Data
Files can become corrupt, which can be due to the way it is configured. Initially setting it to do a full back-up, a user can set it to do a weekly scan for "new and updated files and add them to [my] backup". When looking into the newest set of backup files a user can see copies of files I know I haven't accessed let alone changed, in months based on the settings. It's also great because you can schedule a back up of data the same time, everyday. It also supports playing many formats of video and audio files off of normal USB flash drives and data CDs or DVDs.
Even with such a configuration, it should be loaded because the files can be seen. There are cases where it seems for some reason that the backup program has decided to randomly add files to my backup for no reason.
One time, even though a user has been religiously backing up my hard drive onto external backup drive, after the hard drive crashed I found out that most of my hard drive data never actually got backed up to any of the drive. As any seasoned computer jockey will tell you, data loss is not a question of if but when.
Keep in mind, however, that a backup hard drive is just as susceptible to mechanical failure (and, for that matter, virus and spy ware infections) as your primary drive--all the more reason to adopt more than one backup solution. Also keep in mind that it usually is more expensive use a backup hard drive, which is less savory.

Hard Drive Capacities
Hard drive capacities has been increasing year after year and we are now reaching unprecedented capacities. The question I pose to you is how much space do we really need? My first computer I owned was in 1994. I had a 100mhz computer with 500 MB of disk space with a cost of nearly $3,000. Could you imagine having a hard drive today with 500mb? It did its job back then with only 500MB, but there's no way you could even install an operating system on it today.
6 years later (in 2000) I decided to upgrade my computer storage space. It was a 60GB hard drive that I paid well over 500 dollars for. Yes I know that sounds a bit crazy, but at the time the average disk space was about 10-20 gb, and mine was 3-5 times their capacity. Fast forward to today (another 10 years), you are now able to buy a 1 TB for well under $100. For those that are not tech savvy, 1 terabyte = 1,000 gb.
Do we really need all of this space on our computers? The average computer user will only need a fraction of that capacity and will never even get close to maxing it out. The reason why hard drive space has continually increased is because of the demand for fast broadband speeds. It is now easier to transmit data on the web fast and easy.
Back in 1996, I used AOL for my internet service. One day, I decided to download a file that was roughly 1gb to my hard drive. It was eventually completed but took 24 hours a day for nearly 30 days to finish the download. Compare that to the broadband speeds of today. I am now able to download 1gb file today in less than 1 hour. In additional, watching music videos back then took about 45 minutes to buffer before you could even watch the video. Today, you could just go on YouTube and watch the video as it is streaming in real time. With speeds getting progressively faster and technology increasing rapidly, it was evident that hard drive space needed to be increased.
Music, photos, documents, and especially movies take up a lot of space. Unless new technology surfaces that requires more disk space, I just do not see the need for much further increase in storage capacities. Having huge capacities only creates big headaches. Imagine sorting through 500 TB (500,000 GB) to find one specific picture. It's like looking for a needle in a haystack. No, thank you.

Will Formatting Permanently Erase My Hard Drive?
Selling, recycling, or giving away your old computer? Wondering if simply formatting data will permanently erase your hard drive? Simply formatting data on a hard drive and erasing it is not enough internet security. You need to use disk deleting software to permanently erase data and files on your hard drive.
You can spend countless hours going through your hard drive and deleting all the files and y documents you want. Using your "delete" key on your keyboard in Windows unfortunately basically only removes the shortcuts to the files making them invisible to users. Deleted files still reside in your hard drive. They can easily be recovered using data recovery software, readily available for download on the Internet.
While formatting a hard drive is a little more secure than simply erasing the files, it does not permanently erase the actual data on the disk. Formatting a hard drive only erases the address tables. This makes it much more difficult to recover the files. However, a computer specialist would be able to recover most or all of the data that was on the disk before reformat, using data recovery software. This is wonderful if you have accidentally reformatted a hard drive. On the other hand though, it is not good if you're selling, recycling, or giving away your computer. With your computer in th wrong hands, crooks could steal your identity. This could lead you to becoming the next victim of identity theft, one of the fastest growing crimes in Canada and the USA.
Here's a bit of "food for thought". In 2003, two MIT students purchased 138 used disk drives from various locations. They found more than 5,000 credit card numbers, medical reports, deleted personal and corporate financial information. On top of this the two students found several gigabytes of personal email and pornography on those disks.
To securely erase data and files from your hard drive you need to use a process called disk wiping. This is a secure method of ensuring that data on your computer and other storage devices is permanently deleted. To permanently and securely erase data on your hard drive you need to use disk deleting software, also known as file wipers, shredders, and wipe programs. It is good to know that there is free disk deleting software for download on the Internet.
Disk deleting software overwrites your hard drive with 0's or random patterns. This makes it virtually impossible to recover data and files on your computer using data recovery software.
Apparently, according to an article I read in PC World, some hardware can recover data that has been written over once or twice. That is where secure delete standards, such as the Department of Defense 5220.22-M, comes into play. This specification states that overwriting the drive sector three times with specific, different characters constitutes one pass. Seven such passes are recommended by many Internet security experts to make the data completely unrecoverable.
It is reassuring that to read data overwritten by even the simplest disk deleting software requires expensive hardware to recover, so only the most determined professional sleuth would be able to recover your data.

Diagnostic Tips For Hard Drive Data Recovery
You will be able to decide on recovery options only if you know what exactly is wrong with the disk. There are a few things you can do which would give you a reasonable idea about the nature of the hard disk problem.
Logical problem - if there is something wrong with the boot sector of the hard drive rendering it un-bootable. Boot from a floppy and do a read only scan of the disk. You will be able to decide on an appropriate strategy for fixing the master boot record. If the boot sector is lost then you should be able to decide how to go about recovering the data. If there are bad sectors in the master boot record, then attach the hard drive to another working computer as a secondary hard drive and try to recover data using software hard drive recovery.
Electrical problem - where the circuit board on the hard disk has been damaged due to a higher than allowed electrical current passing through it. Open up your system's ATX cabinet box, take out your hard drive, and closely examine the circuit board under the hard drive. Do not touch the board as static discharge can damage the disk's head. If there are telltale signs of a burnt circuit board or burnt components, then you can decide for sure that it is a board problem.
Mechanical problem - where the head that reads the data stored on the different platters arranged inside hard drive damage or the alignment of the platters themselves affected. The sure sign of a mechanical problem is the clicking sound that you will hear from the hard drive when it is trying to spin up or spin down. If this click sound is coming, then the problem related to mechanical trouble inside the hard disk platter assembly.
Data recovery protection with reasonable degree of success is perfectly possible from a damaged hard disk or other kind of storage media. As long as you have access to internet, so the best policy is to backup the important data on your hard drive so that, you are not left with the costly and time consuming option of data recovery in case of damage to storage media.

Terabyte External Hard Drive Can Benefit You
One thing that we look when purchasing computers nowadays, aside from the power of the processor and memory, is the hard drive. How much do we have? Is this enough to hold my pictures and video clips? A casual computer user who downloads a lot of music and videos can use up space pretty fast and together with faster internet connections, we can download a gig of data in less than an hour. Most new computers comes with a 500 gigabyte drive as a standard and you can upgrade up to 1-2 Terabytes. Just imagine how much drive space we have 10 years ago.
One thing also that we take for granted is that what happens if our computer crashes. There are a lot of software programs out there and some are bundled with anti-virus programs that backups our data at a predetermined time or automatically set when a drive failure is eminent. One of the best way to get our backups is to store it on another portable drive instead of partitioning your current one to put your back up. A terabyte external hard drive fits the bill. It is capable enough to backup your whole drive and then some but you can go over board and get the 2 or 3 terabyte external drive if you wish but at this time, cost can be a factor whereas a 1 terabyte drive will only cost around $100-150.
Most of these portable drives bundles a backup software with the unit, just make sure to set it up properly and to schedule it so as to have a recent backup copy when your current computer drive fails. These are also connected normally using the USB 2.0 ports but some offer a faster firewire or LAN connection. It is also better to separate the main computer and the backup drive so as to prevent losing both of them if a physical mishap like flood, fire, etc. happens.
These terabyte external drives are not only for backups but some people also use it as an external storage of their media files and preventing over crowding of their current drive causing their computers to slow down. They try to keep just the programs on their main drive and anything that they download and upload in their computer goes directly to the terabyte external hard drive.
So how can you find the best deal for the 1 terabyte external hard drives? Just Google it. There are a lot of companies that makes these storage drives but don't try to buy the cheapest one from an unheard company because the saying "you get what you pay for" applies here. Stick with the brand names especially the ones that are known for making hard drives like Seagate, Western Digital and the likes. Also use comparison shopping sites like price grabber or NexTag to get the best price for a given brand and model. Also make sure that store that you buy it from has a good feedback and reputation so as not to have any problems or if any occurs, it will be fixed promptly.

Do Your Laptop a Favor Buy an External Hard Drive
Today laptops are technological wonders. Many of the more expensive models contain much more hard disk capacity than many desk top units of just a few years ago. Working with these new laptops can be a joy. However if care is not used in downloading massive amounts of data, your new laptop marvel may soon turn into a sluggish complaining robot. Before this occurs you should consider purchasing and using one of the new external hard drives.
These external hard drives hold massive amounts of data without complaint. Most are small and compact and will need only a small amount of table top space to be serviceable. Some are not much larger than a good size cell phone. But do not let the size fool you.
Pocket size aluminum units just three inches by five inches and weighing in at a mere five and a quarter ounces have a capacity of 100gb or more. These units are ideal for laptop use. The units connect to your computer through a USB port. This of course means they can be used on any computer you own.
Having data from your main computer available on your laptop while traveling or just working from your easy chair or patio is a simple matter with these units. Simply plug into an empty USB port. The computer will recognize the unit and you will find a notice appear on the computer screen which allows several options. Usually you would choose open and display contents. If your speakers are not muted you will most likely receive an audio alert also.
If size or a little more weight are not a problem for you when traveling there are larger units with massive capacity. One unit with a 500gb capacity is just four and a half inches by eight inches and one inch thick. This type of unit weighs almost two pounds and uses an ac adapter instead of the computers power source. Weight and bulk would be a consideration with these units. Two smaller units may be a better choice for the traveler.
Of course balancing your laptop and an external hard drive on your lap can also be a problem. However if working on a desk or any other surface the additional hard drive space could make the difference between completing a project or putting it off till you can return to your PC.
All in all these small portable units offer the laptop user lots of additional disk space for folders and files or for downloading lots of video or music files for the laptop user who finds the computer a form of entertainment more than a workstation.
Spend just a little time exploring the various models and prices and you can surely find just the right external hard drive for your particular situation.
